The Ripple vs. SEC lawsuit has been dragging on for over two years. The Securities and Exchange Commission filed the lawsuit in 2020, alleging that the cryptocurrency company sold XRP as a security without initially registering it.

Following this scrutiny by the SEC, Ripple and XRP were gravely affected, causing a drop in their price and also retail interest. The lawsuit also pushed Coinbase to delist XRP, following which the exchange received backlash for its decision.

In a recent interview, Paul Grewal, the chief legal officer of Coinbase, addressed how XRP can be relisted on the exchange.

Coinbase will relist Ripple (XRP) if the ruling gives a clarity

While speaking to Tony Edward, the Thinking Crypto host, Grewal mentioned it’s possible for the exchange to relist XRP. He also stated that it would greatly depend upon the grounds of the ruling, the legal reasoning, and the assessment by the exchange. Grewal also stated its responsibility as a publicly listed company:

“So a lot is going to depend on the particulars of that court rules. I know that’s not going to be terribly satisfying to some, but we do have a responsibility as a publicly listed company to tread carefully in this area and with respect to any token that’s a subject of federal court litigation.”
