Linux Mint Now Accepts Monero and Bitcoin As Donations

Linux Mint has started to accept donations in the form of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and more recently, Monero.

The company has included a cryptocurrency address in its Donors page and reassures the public that all donations made in the cryptocurrencies will remain anonymous.

Linux Mint is a community-driven and one of the most popular desktop Linux distributions which strive to “modern, elegant and comfortable operating system which is both powerful and easy to use”.

The company is also encouraging users to donate to enable them to cover expenses necessary for the distribution, hosting, purchase of equipment, and advertisement on other websites since Linux Mint itself is free and does not generate any kind of income.

It also highlighted its key ambition to compete with major projects that are backed and supported by tech giant companies such as Apple and Microsoft.

This is not the first time; donations are asked in crypto coins. When the State of Texas was badly devastated by a hurricane last year, a team-up between The crypto show and non-profit organization called Unsung.org have bought a massive amount of relief goods and items using donated cryptocurrency.

It was also reported that during the crisis, Bitcoin.com’s CEO, Roger Ver donated a massive $42,000 and Bitcoin toward the cause. There are also other charitable organizations that accept Bitcoin donations. These include the Water Project and Common Collection.

Given these different scenarios, it can be inferred that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can be utilized to speed up donations.
