These 5 Countries Searched for Bitcoin the Most in 2017

2017 was an interesting year for Bitcoin traders and enthusiasts as several countries have started to show immense interest in digital currency and topping the list in 2017 is South Africa.

According to Google Trends, the country has the highest number of search queries on Bitcoin.

This was not a surprise as South Africa was also one of the top 5 countries highly interested in Bitcoin as featured in the July 2017 article of Coinify newsroom.

South Africa searched for Bitcoin the most

As the people in Africa are exposed to hefty cross-border transaction fees, the use of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have become popular.

This country is home to BidorBuy, one of the largest marketplaces to date. The website itself is one of the first marketplaces that have introduced Bitcoin as one of the payment methods. Furthermore, the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) also expressed interest in digital currency in early 2017.

Slovenia ranks second on the list

During the Digital Slovenia 2020 event, Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar expressed the government’s desire to position it as a highly recognized Blockchain environment in the European Union.

Taking the third spot is the Netherlands

It can be recalled that Bitcoin has been one of the hottest events this year which also prompted a Dutch family to sell all their belongings to invest in the said cryptocurrency.

Lastly, Australia and Singapore took the final two spots. Although there are controversies surrounding major banks in these countries and their disapproval of Bitcoin, traders continue to feel bullish about the skyrocketing price of Bitcoin.
